Oilzapper (Bioremediation) Technology
Oilzapper (Bioremediation) Technology: for the bioremediation of oil contaminated sites, oily sludge and drill cuttings.
After seven years of extensive research work TERI developed an easy and cost-effective bioremediation process. Providing great significance to bioremediation in the worldwide effort to tackle incidents of oil spills, TERI has developed OILZAPPER – a consortium of crude oil and oily sludge degrading bacteria – deriving from various bacterial cultures existing in the natural environment. OILZAPPER is multiplied under laboratory conditions, mixed with carrier materials, and packed into reusable polybags for convenient transportation. TERI conducted field trials at multi-locations and the results were highly encouraging, resulting in complete reclamation of the land. OILZAPPER has been used successfully since 1996. So far more than 2, 85,000tonnes of oil soaked soil/oily sludge/oil contaminated drill cuttings/oil contaminated soil and water has been bio- remediated.
